The Lake Forest High School administration sent the following letter to parents & guardians of Lake Forest High School students on Sept. 11 at about 4 p.m.:
Lake Forest Community High School District 115 Board of Education Update on Teacher Contract Negotiations
September 11, 2012
Dear Parents and Guardians:
The Teachers’ Union has announced that they may strike after 12:01 am, Wednesday, September 12, if a settlement is not reached. As the Union has complete control over the moment in time at which a strike is officially declared, we cannot anticipate the exact time we will be able to update you on the status of the Wednesday, September 12 school day. In order to keep you informed,
we will post detailed information on our homepage and through the LFHS E-Newsletter as
soon as we have received official notification. We will also send an Instant Alert message at approximately 6:30 am.
Please be sure you are signed up for the LFHS E-Newsletter (details on our homepage, www.lfhs.org) and check our homepage daily for the most current information.
As we communicated to you last week, if the teachers announce a strike, the Board’s focus remains the same – to serve our students. To that end, on Wednesday, September 12 through Friday, September 14:
The building will remain open as a safe, supervised, and supportive environment for all students. On these three days, buses will not run nor will students be required to attend school. Our doors, however, will remain open to students between 7:50am and 3:10pm. Students should enter through the circle drive and will need to show their student ID. Lunch will also be available each day. We thank the CROYA, Lake Forest Recreation staff and nurses from Northwestern/Lake Forest Hospital who will assist our administrative and support staff in the building.
The college application process for seniors will not be impacted. Transcripts and other application-related processes will be continued without interruption. On Wednesday, September 12, the following college representatives will be in the CRC:
- 8:45 AM Butler University
- 9:40 AM Kalamazoo College
- 10:40 AM University of San Francisco
- 11:30 AM Otterbein University
- 12:30 PM University of St. Andrews (Scotland)
- 1:25 PM Columbia College
- 2:20 PM Knox College
Visit www.lfhs.org for:
- Thursday, September 13 – College visit schedule
- Friday, September 14 – College visit schedule
- ACT Prep, SAT Prep, College Essay Writing Schedules
The support staff in Student Services will also be available in Room 104 throughout the day to assist with questions regarding the college process. Additional support with the application process will be available for students in the library.
The resource center will be staffed for students needing academic support.
We were recently informed that the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) will strictly enforce the rules regarding interscholastic contests. This ruling prohibits us from participating in athletic competition if the teachers go on strike. Every attempt will be made to reschedule any contests missed due to a work stoppage. We are very disappointed with this decision, as we believe it is in the best interest of our students to continue scheduled activities. In the event of a strike, please check the athletic homepage for the practice schedules on Wednesday and daily the duration of the strike.
Once again, please be sure you are signed up for the LFHS E-Newsletter (details on our homepage, www.lfhs.org) and check our homepage daily for the most current information. We thank you for your time and attention to this important matter.
Sincerely,
Lake Forest Community High School District 115
Board of Education

“We are very disappointed with this decision, as we believe it is in the best interest of our students to continue scheduled activities.” — I would assume you’d be more disappointed that our students are not in the classroom than the fact they won’t be on our athletic fields? Priorities!
