Lake Forest Preservation Foundation Home & Garden Tour Features Lake Road Estates

From the Lake Forest Preservation Foundation:

Welcome Fall in all its glory and join the Lake Forest Preservation Foundation’s Home and Garden Tour on Sunday, September 30, from 1 to 3 p.m. with a reception to follow from 3 to 4 p.m. Classic estate homes of Lake Road designed by historic architects and landscape designers will be showcased.

The tour highlights the north end of Lake Forest’s Lake Road. This street as a whole was perhaps the Midwest’s leading early 20th c. architectural and landscape design destination. Historic architects’ works being seen include David Adler, Anderson & Ticknor, Frederick Wainwright Perkins and Howard Van Doren Shaw. Historic landscape designers include Marshall Johnson, Rose Standish Nichols and Ferruccio Vitale, with renovation by Craig Bergmann. Art Miller and Dianna Melichar each will present a short talk.

No walk has ever before focused on this segment of this great street and its design gems. This jewel box neighborhood offers a compact tour that rivals the great estates and landscapes of Newport, the Hamptons, or Charleston. Don’t miss being a participant in this visit, itself a historic “first.”

Advance tickets to this unique opportunity can be purchased online for $85.00 until September 27 at www.lfpf.org or by mailing a check to the Lake Forest Preservation Foundation, 400 East Illinois Road,Lake Forest, IL 60045.

Ticket pickup will also be at Gorton Community Center on September 30 from 12:30-1:15. Tickets can be purchased at the door on the day of the event for $100.00. Questions can be answered by calling 847.234.1230. Comfortable walking shoes are suggested.
