A LEGO Experience: The Farnsworth House
Calling all future architects: In conjunction with the upcoming Local Legends event honoring John H. Bryan, the Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Historical Society is proud to host a children’s LEGO® architectural program featuring the iconic Farnsworth House.
The event takes place on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m. at Gorton Community Center.
Children will build the LEGO® Farnsworth House kit and have the opportunity to build their own LEGO® house design at home and bring it in for a friendly competition to be judged by prominent architect Mr. Laurence Booth. Tina Strauss will share the story of the Farnsworth House as background to the model making.
Mr. Bryan, who played a significant role in preserving the Farnsworth House, said: “There is no building more important in modern architecture.” Designed by master architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, the steel and glass structure was built in 1951 as a weekend retreat on the Fox River. With its large glass windows and minimalist interior, it is one of the most famous examples of modernist residential architecture.
Tickets are $35, $30 for Historical Society Family Members, and include a LEGO® kit of the Farnsworth House (a $60 value). Reservations are required and space is limited. This event sold out last year, so reserve your space early. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling 847.234.5253.
