Submitted by the “Dream For Eileen” organization
LAKE FOREST, IL, October, 1, 2012 — The simple idea of a commemorative run/walk has evolved into so much more. Ten years after the first “Dream for Eileen” 5K, nine nursing scholarships have been granted to nursing students who are in great financial need. Through the wonderful generosity of this community and the Walgreen’s family, these nursing students will be able to share their gifts: holding the hand of a sick child, attending to the medical concerns of a senior citizen, or assisting in critical surgical procedure when they become practicing nurses. At this time, the scholarship stands at $15,000–a significant accomplishment that will have no end in its ability to touch many people. The 5K run committee and the Lupton family is overwhelmed by the generosity and love that has been shown toward one of our own who will not be forgotten.
Patrick and Therese Lupton—parents of Eileen Lupton, a 23-year-old victim of the June 29, 2003, porch collapse in Chicago—are keeping their daughter’s dream alive through an annual scholarship at Villanova (PA) University’s College of Nursing. Eileen Lupton was a 2003 graduate of the university’s College of Nursing. The Luptons are pleased to announce that Marie McClure, the ninth recipient of the Eileen Shea Lupton Memorial Scholarship, was recently selected as the 2012-2013 awardee.
McClure, a senior at Villanova University’s College of Nursing this fall, will receive this scholarship award for the third year. The scholarship is awarded annually to a nursing student in good academic standing who demonstrates financial need.
“In particular, we look for someone involved in the College of Nursing and university activities – someone who contributes to the community and possesses the leadership and spirit that was characteristic of Eileen,” says M. Louise Fitzpatrick, Connelly Endowed Dean and Professor, College of Nursing.
The mission of the Eileen Shea Lupton Memorial Foundation is to provide nursing scholarships so that the dream of enhancing compassionate healthcare can be fulfilled.
