A lot of people think sailing is a summer sport in the Midwest, but the fall sailing season doesn’t end until early November, and the sailors are back in the water before the snow melts in very early spring. So if you think you were cold this weekend, consider what it was like down at the beach where some two dozen Midwest junior sailing teams converged for the annual Lake Forest Halloween Regatta, which took place at Forest Park Beach on Oct. 27 and 28.
It wasn’t all work and no play–the regatta included pumpkin carving, carmel apples and a costume contest. The photos below are from Sunday’s costume contest, while the action shots show two Lake Forest sailors testing the waves. The sailing conditions on Saturday were manageable enough, but the wind was too unpredictable for races to take place on Sunday. (Photos by Adrienne Fawcett)
