BASKETBALL, MEN
LFC 64 - 50 v. Knox, 2/15
After honoring its seven seniors before their final regular season home game, the Lake Forest College men’s basketball team hosted and defeated Knox College 64-50 Wednesday night. The Forester seniors combined for 40 points, 28 rebounds, and 10 assists in the contest.
Lake Forest senior forward Travis Clark led all players in the game with 20 points, 15 rebounds, and four assists. He also blocked a shot and record two steals.
Junior point guard Jeff Beck was the only other Forester in double figures with 11 points and he added five rebounds.
The home team shot just 38.5 percent from the field but held Knox to only 31.6 percent. Neither team shot well from three-point range, combining to make just seven of 42 attempts. Lake Forest shot 10-for-11 and the Prairie Fire made 11 of 15 tries from the foul line. The Foresters had a slight 41-39 edge in rebounds and committed just eight turnovers to Knox’s 13.
The game was tied at 21 after 12 minutes of play before a 12-0 run by the Foresters put them ahead for good. A layup by Clark at the buzzer gave the home team a 37-23 advantage at halftime.
The margin remained in double figures but never exceeded 17 points during the second half.
Clark and fellow seniors Dayton Young, Chris Roets, David Pilalis, Drew Grennell, Don Duncan, and Nate Bateman exited the game one-at-a-time to a large ovation during the final two minutes of the contest.
Lake Forest posted the first 20-win season in program history and has lost just twice. The Foresters also raised their Midwest Conference record to 16-1. Knox fell to 3-19 overall and 2-15 in the league.
MWC Commissioner Chris Graham was on hand to present the conference championship trophy after the game.
The Foresters, who are ranked second in the NCAA Division III Midwest Region will close out the regular season at Grinnell College Saturday at 3:00 p.m. They will then host the 2012 MWC Tournament the following weekend and play in the first semifinal Friday evening at 5:00. The other semifinal will follow at 7:30 and the tournament final will be played Saturday afternoon at 3:00.

LFC 116 – 104 v. Knox, 2/15
In the highest-scoring game in program history, the Lake Forest College women’s basketball team defeated visiting Knox College 116-104 Wednesday evening. The victory also clinched a spot for the Foresters in next weekend’s four-team Midwest Conference Tournament.
In addition to setting a single-game team record for points, Lake Forest also set new marks with 81 rebounds and 42 field goals made and their 32 made free throws are tied for second in program history.
Several Foresters had career-high performances, including sophomore guard/forward Gina Ambrose with 25 points and 19 rebounds. Junior guard Alex Messacar scored 16 points and established new career-highs with 18 rebounds and six assists. They were the first career double-doubles for both players.
Junior guard Sam Schuring matched Ambrose’s game-high 25 points on 11-for-16 shooting from the field and added six rebounds and a pair of steals. Junior forward Liz Radtke scored a career-high 24 points and pulled down nine rebounds, and added four assists. Freshman guard Jenna Rice tied Messacar with a game-high six assists.
The Foresters shot 47.2 percent from the field and made 32 of 44 free throws. They held Knox to 34.9 percent shooting from the floor and the Prairie Fire connected just nine times in 51 attempts from three-point range and on 21 of 30 foul shots. Lake Forest out-rebounded the visitors 81-45 but committed 40 turnovers to Knox’s 24.
Lake Forest led by as many as seven points and Knox by as many as 10 in a first half that included nine ties and 10 lead changes. Knox took a 39-29 lead with 5:23 to play in the period before the Foresters closed out the first half on a 19-6 to take a 48-45 lead into the locker room.
There were six more ties and four more lead changes in the second half. The Prairie Fire broke on of the ties with an 8-0 run to take an 84-76 lead with 10:15 to play. A 12-0 Forester run a few minutes later put the home team ahead 90-86 but Knox pulled even once again. Lake Forest scored its 100th point of the evening on a layup by Radtke with 3:43 left and, after Knox trimmed the lead to two again, used a 14-4 run to pull away and secure the victory.
Forester senior guard Natasha Poulopoulos battled back from injury to make her season debut on Senior Day. She was honored before the final home game of her career.
Lake Forest is now 12-10 overall and 11-6 in league play this season. Knox fell to 4-18 overall and 4-13 in the league.
The Foresters will look to clinch the #2 seed in the conference tourney at Grinnell College on Saturday. The regular season finale will begin at 1:00 p.m.
The MWC Tournament will be played at St. Norbert College the following weekend. Friday night’s semifinals are scheduled for 5:00 and 7:00 and Saturday’s final will begin at 3:00 p.m.

LFC 4 – 3 (OT) v. Wis-Stevens Point, 2/12
After falling behind 3-0 in the first period, the Lake Forest College women’s hockey team defeated visiting UW-Stevens Point 4-3 in overtime on Sunday. Freshman
Marissa Weber tied the game late in the third period and netted the game-winner with 1:52 to play in overtime.
It was Weber’s second two-goal game since joining the team prior to the spring semester, giving her four goals on the season. The overtime score came on the power play and was assisted by seniors Kim Herring and Molly Wallner.
Stevens Point started the game with goals at 6:21, 7:23, and 17:52 in the opening period. The Pointers out-shot the Foresters 17-13 during the game’s first 20 minutes.
Lake Forest got on the scoreboard at 5:46 in the second period when junior Jenn Caldwell lit the lamp for the fifth time this season. She was assisted by Herring and senior Jessica Dare. The home team pulled to within one less than six minutes later when Dare scored for the eighth time this year. Sophomore Stephanie Slinde and junior Angie Chronis were each credited with an assist.
The Foresters had a 16-11 edge in shots on goal in the second period and a 12-5 advantage in the third. Weber finally tied the game on an unassisted goal with 2:22 to play in regulation.
Lake Forest sophomore goaltender Stacey Dierking entered the game at the beginning of the second period and stopped all 19 shots she faced, including three in overtime. She earned the victory and is now 7-4-2 on the season with a 2.06 goals against average and .935 save percentage.
The dramatic victory came a day after the Pointers defeated the Foresters 2-1, also on a power play goal in overtime.
Lake Forest is now 13-7-2 overall and 12-5-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play while Stevens Point fell to 10-11–2 overall and 9-8-1 in the league. The Foresters remain in third place in the league standings with 25 points, two more than the College of St. Scholastica and three more than Adrian College, where Lake Forest will play in the final series of the regular season next weekend. Friday night’s game will begin at 7:00 (EST) and Saturday afternoon’s at 2:00 (EST). The top four team in the conference standings will host quarterfinal series the following weekend.

LFC Women 121 – 31, Men 138 – 91 v. Illinois Institute of Technology, 2/4
The Lake Forest College swimming & diving teams hosted and defeated Illinois Institute of Technology on Saturday in their final tuneup before the conference meet in two weeks. Forester seniors Jade Perkins and Amy Finn were honored before the final home meet of their careers.
The final score on the women’s side was 121-31 and the Forester men prevailed 138-91.
Perkins scored a season-high 215.45 points in the 1-meter competition and 188.95 off the 3-meter board.
Finn won the 800m-freestyle in 10:03.57 and the 400m-freestyle in 4:52.28 before leading off the victorious 200m-freestyle relay team, which finished in 2:00.52.
Lake Forest started the meet the 200-medley relay juniors Kelsey Hoeper and Becky Shaak and sophomores Jill Pastick and Loren Dutca winning the 200m-medley relay with a time of 2:10.19.
The Forester men’s 200-medley relay team of sophomore Garr Punnett, junior Alex Marks, freshman Kevin Barbrick, and junior Diego Ledesma would have broken the Sports & Recreation Center pool record with their time of 1:50.19 had Illinois Tech not edged them out for first place by less than a second.
Shaak, junior Meghan Mason, and sophomore Zach Wenner joined Finn as winners of two individual events. Shaak touched the wall first in the 100m-freestyle in 1:02.37 and the 100m-breaststroke in 1:18.75. Mason’s time of 30.49 seconds was the fastest in the 50m-freestyle and she also won the 100m-backstroke in 1:13.79. Wenner placed first in the 200m-freestyle in 1:59.32 and the 100m-freestyle with a time of 54.48 seconds.
Hoeper finished first in the 200m-freestyle (2:17.53), sophomore Sarah Stoklosa won the 200m-IM (2:37.55), and Pastick prevailed in the 100m-butterfly (1:11.28).
On the men’s side sophomore David Albion won the 200m-IM in 2:21.54, Punnett took first in the 100m-butterfly in 58.58 seconds, and Marks triumphed in the 100m-breaststroke in 1:10.61.
Hoeper, Pastick, and freshman Jessica Hanch were Finn’s teammates on the 200m-freestyle relay (2:00.52) and Barbrick, Punnett, Wenner, and Ledesma closed out the day by winning the men’s 200m-freestyle relay in 1:38.02, just two-hundredths of a second off the pool record.
The Forester divers contiued posting impressive scores. On the men’s side Matt Perry won the 3-meter competition with 264.20 points and his first-place score of 264.20 points off the 1-meter board were just 10.80 points shy of qualifying for the national meet. Freshman Christina Pekar and junior Sam Gardner were able to post NCAA Division III Championship Meet qualifying scores of 259.40 and 257.70 points, respecitvely, off the 1-meter board and freshman Sarah Pekar fell just shy of the 255-point standard with 252.20 points. Christina Pekar also had the highest score of the meet in the 3-meter competition
