Sponsored Post: The Academy @ Citadel Theatre presents its 2013 summer theatre performance camps with Rogers and Hammerstein’s Once Upon a Mattress (grades 5 through 12) and Disney’s Aladdin Jr. (grades 1 through 4).

This year the Academy @ Citadel Theatre (ACT) presents two camp opportunities for young artists that are looking for a real world professional performance experience. Taught by a staff of seasoned professionals, students will be immersed in the world of theatre. Our conservatory style training will expose students to many important aspects of performance art including auditioning, rehearsing, set design, costuming, and the final, fantastic, production.

Over 5 weeks the older students, incoming into grades 5 through 12, will learn and perform Rogers and Hammerstein’s Once Upon a Mattress. An exciting re-telling of the folk tale, The Princess and the Pea, Once Upon a Mattress is a delightful musical, a sometimes hilarious, sometimes romantic piece, that kids will love for its side-splitting humor and wonderful songs. The five-week camp will run from June 10 through to the final performances on July 9 and 10. Camp hours will be from 9am until 2pm, Monday through Friday. Camp cost is $899.

Students in the Aladdin Jr. camp, aimed toward younger performers incoming into grades 1 to 4, will spend 4 weeks preparing, learning, and performing. This camp will culminate in presentations of the beloved Disney classic on July 6 and 7. The four-week camp will run Mondays to Thursdays from 9am to 2pm. Registration fee for Aladdin Jr. is only $595.

Both camps will be held at the Lake Forest Country Day School, 145 S Green Bay Road, in Lake Forest.

To register for either camp call or email Citadel Theatre Education Director Christine Cummings – 847.735.8554×2 (ccummings@citadeltheatre.org) or go online to www.CitadelTheatre.org/education.

More than a play, these camps are experiences that campers will always remember! Here are some photos from previous A.C.T. summer camps:

Mark Litzsinger’s 1935 Packard Twelve Coupe/Convertible won 2nd Place at the “Celebration of Automobiles” show at the Indianapolis 500 Race Track recently. Mark, an avid car buff/collector from Lake Forest, reports that he and his father, Dick Litzsinger of Lake Bluff, got to drive the Packard around the race track a few times, which he says was quite a fun ride. The award was in the class of Packards built between 1930-35.

Here are a couple of photos of the Packard at the track:

Lake Forest, Ill. – The first phase of the Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital campus revitalization project will begin this summer with the construction of a new entrance road to the campus from Route 41. Construction on the new entrance will begin in mid-July and be completed by mid-November, 2013.

“The additional road to the hospital from Route 41 will lighten the traffic for patients coming to and from the hospital at all entrances,” said Thomas J. McAfee, president of Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital. “We are excited to begin this first phase of the campus revitalization project.”

Construction crews will work from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and trucks will access the campus from Route 41. The new road will attach to the existing Westmoreland Road that runs along the perimeter of the campus and will be landscaped with grass until the entire facility project is completed, at which time permanent landscaping will be planted.

The City of Lake Forest Plan Commission approved the Campus Master Use Plan last year, and has since named a Hospital Advisory Committee to work closely with the hospital’s project team to provide guidance on the design of the facility and landscaping plans. The Hospital Advisory Committee includes Lake Forest residents Susan Garrett, Craig Bergmann, Ed Chandler, John Sentell, Rafael Carreira, Stephen Wright, Charles Kohlmeyer, Jeffrey Gannon, and Augie Ziccarrelli.

Bravo Waukegan was a proud sponsor of the 2013 Waukegan Middle School Music Festival, which took place recently at the Genesee Theatre in Waukegan. This concert featured performances by the Waukegan Middle Chorus as well as the Middle School Bands and Orchestras.

Research from a recent longitudinal study by the National Endowment for the Arts shows that, “students who have arts-rich experiences in school do better across-the-board academically, and they also become more active and engaged citizens, voting, volunteering, and generally participating at higher rates than their peers.” We hope that by supporting the music programs in Waukegan, we will see these children pursue their dreams and reach for the stars.

Bravo Waukegan is proud of our partnership with the Waukegan Schools, and we remain dedicated to empowering the youth of Waukegan with the gift of music. Bravo Waukegan offers many programs in addition to the wonderful music curriculum already provided by the schools. For more information about our Summer Music Program, instrument purchases, or other opportunities, please contact us at bravowaukegan@gmail.com or call (847) 722-5821.
